FaerieCon 09

CALLING ALL FAERIES, ELVES, PIXIES, SPRYTES, FAUNS, SATYRS, GREENMEN AND WOMEN,, WITCHES, WIZARDS, WARLOCKS, TROLLS, GOBLINS AND FOLKS OF FAE!

It's that time of year again, and if you are anything like me you have been weaving your magic and stardust for weeks and weeks now creating your wares and costumes for FaerieCon! I have put up pics of my costume for the Bad Faerie Masquerade Ball (black and scarlet frock) for your viewing pleasure. I have also put up pics of the costume I have crafted for my dear friend who will be attending this year's festivities with me. I will be wearing a Good Faerie costume during the day, and donning my "naughty nymph" threads in the evening--much like our beloved Brian Froud's book "Good Faeries, Bad Faeries." Or as the Ruler of Darkness in Legend so aptly says, "What is the Light, without the Darkness?"

What is FaerieCon you ask? FaerieCon is the East Coast sister celebration the West Coast's FaerieWorlds. It is a huge celebration of everything Faerie. Artisans, crafters, storytellers, and faerie people of all walks join together for one weekend of love, magic, sharing and fun. Almost everyone at the festival dresses up as their true faerie self. The event features a Good and Bad Faerie Ball each night with live music by faerie and fantasy singers and bands. Check it out!

I'll be sure to post pics of our adventure after we return from the Faerie Realm...if we do...

Wearing Vintage in Today's World

Ever think about the benefits of wearing vintage clothes in today's world? There are many benefits to this including recycling which is great for the environment, being "green" in your clothing choices, affordability, well made clothing of quality, being unique, wearing something rich with history, freaking other people out and just plain looking cool!

Whenever I go to my "day job," I get the feeling my co-workers are just waiting to see what "crazy" outfit I'm going to show up in this time :) Whether it's a pair of platform Famolare shoes, lace up Zodiac boots, or an insanely printed dress or disco shirt, they are always left in amazement. The thing is, I just love vintage and will never stop wearing my treasures. It takes the baby boomers back to the days of their youth, and gets them to tell me fantastic stories about the 60s and 70s. I hear "oh, I had a pair of go-go boots!" or "I used to wear a sheath dress just like that one!" Vintage clothing is joyful and inspiring and brings out the best in people, whether it's a look of amusement or sweet nostalgia.

My 36th birthday is fast approaching and I will be going for a night out on the town. What incredible vintage outfit will I be wearing? Well, I guess you'll just have to wait an see... ;) Stay tuned!

What is OOAK?

I use OOAK to describe my faerie sculptures listed in my shop on Etsy. OOAK stands for one of a kind and it refers to an absolutely unique piece of handmade art that will never be exactly recreated. All of my faerie sculptures are OOAK made by me from my imagination and a variety of materials. Please visit and take a look at http://www.serendipitouswinks.etsy.com
